ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is reporting $170,500 of income in his first year as the state's top lawyer, including $18,000 in dividend income and $2,000 of capital losses.
Schneiderman, who is investigating the collapse of mortgage-backed securities, keeps investments in mutual funds handled by financial manager Charles Schwab.
His federal tax return shows mixed investing results, including a nearly $17,000 capital loss from PS Global Nuclear, an energy fund.
The Manhattan resident reports $48,000 of itemized deductions including $26,000 in state and local taxes and $8,000 in charitable giving, mainly to synagogue B'nai Jeshurun and to Guild Hall, an arts center.
He owed $28,000 in federal taxes.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Givner says he is separately giving back $7,575, or 5 percent, of his $151,500 salary to the state.
