Phish at SPAC draws huge crowd

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Hotels in Saratoga Springs are booked this weekend, you would think it was for the horses at the track, but this time it is for Phish at SPAC.

"This is the first time we've had the same band play three nights in a row," said John Huff of Live Nation. "It's like a hometown play for them. I think all the band members are from Vermont, so it's just in their backyard."

A key aspect is that the band has a huge following and sells tickets for all three nights to often the same fans. Many of them are from out of town. It is a big economic impact, just ask Best Western.

"$299 plus tax for a night per weekend so we're making more than usual, usually it's $175 plus tax," said Siobhan Burke of Best Western.

Then there is Joey Audie and the gang. They traveled all the way from Colorado and Florida for the concert, so they figured why not rent a house for the weekend.

"We spent upwards of $5,000 to $6,000, some people like to go to the beach for their vacation, we like to go see Phish," said Joey Audie.

However, if you are not going to the concert, like Patricia Stadler, then you may have picked the wrong weekend to visit Saratoga.

"I've been calling on my iPhone and I can't find anything," said Stadler. Stadler said she would have picked a different weekend to visit.

As for those fans planning on having some cold beverages before the show, SPAC is urging you to follow the rules.

"It is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages into the park, and that includes the parking lot, there will be state police enforcing as they have in the past," said Marcia White of SPAC.
