NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a New York transit officer has been hospitalized after shooting and killing a knife-wielding assailant.
The shooting occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a Long Island Railroad station in Queens. Police said it was unclear why the man attacked Officer John Barnett of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Barnett was taken to the hospital with an eye injury. He was expected to recover.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement that he'd spoke to Barnett before the officer went into surgery and thanked him for his bravery.
