SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Lots of excited children and adults watched fireworks at the Saratoga Casino and Raceway in Saratoga Springs Tuesday night, but the fireworks weren not the only thing booming.
"For us in the bar industry, it's actually better to be mid-week because people don't go away as often so tonight's going to be like a Friday or Saturday night," said David Derby of Gaffney's.
With Independence Day falling on a Wednesday many people have had to alter their usual plans.
"It's kind of a bummer, usually my friends and I go out of town to Martha's Vineyard but a lot of us have to work Thursday and Friday so we can't this year," said Lindsey Pirozzi.
So that means Lindsey and her friends will be spending their money in Saratoga instead.
"Barbecuing, yoga, drinking," said Pirozzi.
All Star Wine and Spirits is certainly gearing up for the drinking portion of the holiday.
"More phone calls than anything, are you open, are you open, are you open," said owner Craig Allen.
"For a lot of people I think Wednesday is sort-of ho-hum, not leaving town, staying in town, that sort of thing but we enjoy it that's for sure," said Allen.
Many people acknowledge, that the Fourth of July is a lot more fun when it involves a three-day weekend.
"It's just one day off, it's the middle of the week, if it was Friday or Monday it would be a different story," said Chad Adkins.
However, if you believe in family traditions like the Vinciquerra family from Syracuse, the Fourth of July is about celebrating America, not a day off.
"We've always enjoyed coming here, we've made it a tradition, we wouldn't miss coming here on the Fourth," said Vinciquerra.
