DELMAR, N.Y. -- After having hundreds of dollars stolen from a local American Legion, the group was able to raise
record profits. The Blachard Post of the American Legion turned over a check to Patriot Flight for more than $6,000 Tuesday.
"Everyone is saying thank you. It brought tears to my eyes," Ray Bender, a World War II veteran said. Bender was able to take a trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. because of Patriot Flight.
The group said it costs upwards of $24,000 for each flight and relies on donations.
Each year the Blanchard Post of the American Legion hosts a golf tournament to raise money for Patriot Flight. This year's event though was compromised after
thieves stole hundreds of dollars in donations. The community stepped up, News10 helped lead those efforts.
John Rees, the Chairman of the Golf Tournament said it was unexpected. "No, no plain and simple, very grateful," Rees told News 10.
The Legion turned over a check for $6,175, which is twice as much as they raised last year.
