LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. - A ten year employee for the Rensselaer County is accused of stealing nearly $75,000 in funds from the Health Department, the Sheriff's Office reports Tuesday.

Following an investigation, the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office says 30-year old Brenda Kennedy, of Lansingburgh, stole the funds from the county where she works as a Medical Billing Clerk.

"She took advantage of her position as a medical billing clerk for the Health Department to commit what has been determined to be a series of criminal acts", said Sheriff Jack Mahar, "She was given a trusted position and violated it."

Kennedy is charged with Grand Larceny in the 2nd Degree, Defrauding the Government, Falsifying Business Records in the 1st degree – all felonies and the misdemeanor of Official Misconduct.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges could be pending.
