Hoosic Valley teens accused of hate crime in court

HOOSIC VALLEY, N.Y. - Three of the four teens charged with a hate crime in Schaghticoke appeared in town court on Monday.

Casey Lee, 17, James Harley, 17, and Dylan Justus, 18, are all charged with criminal mischief, conspiracy as a hate crime, trespassing and graffiti. They all appeared before a judge. Bret Richard St. Onge, 19, faces the same charges but did not appear in court. He was represented by his attorney.

They were all Hoosic Valley students in June, when according to police, they vandalized school property with hateful graffiti which included swastikas and swear words. Damage to the property was estimated at more than $5,000.

"They should at least say sorry," said Carly Yavainskio, a 2012 graduate from Hossic Valley.

"Especially because it says seniors 2012 and I'm a senior I would never do that, and I don't want my name on that I don't want my classes name on that. None of us do, that was pretty awful," said Amy Lynch, another 2012 graduate.

The suspects are scheduled to be back in court August 6.
