NY state to get $146 million in drug settlement

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York stands to receive $146 million in the national settlement with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, which has agreed to pay $3 billion overall to settle federal and state complaints related to marketing and pricing of its drugs.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the record recovery will go to the state's Medicaid program.

GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to pay $2 billion in damages and civil penalties and a $1 billion criminal fine, settling charges it marketed certain drugs for unapproved uses.

Charges include marketing the depression drug Paxil for off-label use by children.

The company says it has changed compliance procedures.

Schneiderman's office participated in negotiations and says New York is getting the largest share among the 42 states.
