SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A $1,000 reward is being offered for information about the suspects who vandalized the Schenectady Jewish Community Center pool.
The JCC's outdoor pool was closed after shards of glass were found in it last week. The vandalism was found last Monday, the same day the center was scheduled to begin summer camp. The pool was reopened on Saturday.
The estimated cost of repairs is in the neighborhood of $35,000. After the pool was drained and cleaned, it took more than three days to refill the 365,000 gallons of water.
The $1,000 reward is being offered by an anonymous donor for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
The Niskayuna Police Department have been investigating the matter.
The JCC is putting together an initiative to raise funds to increase security and create educational community programming about the dangers of vandalism and destruction of public property.
