Teen pleads not guilty to car chase that injured 4

HUDSON, N.Y. – A 15-year-old male appeared in family court on Friday for leading State Police on a car chase through Columbia County that ended with four people injured.

The car chase happened on Thursday night around 11:15 p.m. on Route 23B in Greenport. State Police say four people in two vehicles were injured when a white van being driven by a teen slammed into them.

Police say a patrol officer noticed a white van driving erratically and turned on his emergency lights. The driver accelerated and lost control two miles later. Four people were treated at Albany Medical Center for injuries.

The driver has been identified as a runaway from the Berkshire Farms Youth Facility. However because of his age, he may not be charged. The County Attorney says the teen will likely not see any hard time for the alleged crime, which includes reckless endangerment and unlawfully fleeing a police officer. The teen's attorney told NEWS10 that his client pleaded not guilty.
