Shafiqul IslamHUDSON, N.Y. - A man was sentenced to 20-years-to-life behind bars Tuesday for the murder of 73-year-old Lois Decker in Hillsdale last year.
22-year-old Shafiqul Islam, of Hudson, pleaded guilty in May to Murder 2nd-degree, accused of strangling and killing Decker in her Hillsdale home on November 20, 2011.
Witness impact statements were read in court during Islam's sentencing on Tuesday by Decker's three sisters, her daughter, and her daughter-in-law.
Police say Islam crashed a stolen car, which turned up to be registered to Decker, and then took off in a second vehicle.
As part of the investigation into the accident, police attempted to contact Decker about her vehicle. When they were
unsuccessful contacting her by phone, they went to her residence at 18
Cold Water Street in Hillsdale, where they found her dead.
