WILTON, N.Y. - In March 2007, the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary which had occurred at the Rex Electronics Store located in the Town of Wilton.
It was found that the store had been broken into, and that $48,000 worth of electronic equipment had been removed. It was further discovered that two delivery vans had gone missing from neighboring Benson's Pet Store and were used to load the electronics in.
An investigation into the burglary with members of the Massachusetts State Police led to the arrest of 30-year-old Michael Vasquez, of Lawrence, Mass. on Monday. Allegedly Vasquez along with three others entered the store and took the stolen property into Massachusetts, where the vans were recently discovered.
According to Rex's website, Rex Electronics is based out of Dayton Ohio and has closed all of its retail stores
and is in the liquidation phase after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. The
Wilton Rex Store closed in late 2007.
Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy noted that the break in the case happened when Massachusetts State Police recovered one of
the stolen TVs pursuant to a search warrant in Vasquez's apartment in
Massachusetts. Murphy says Vasquez ultimately admitted his
involvement when faced with the mounting evidence against him.
Vasquez pleaded guilty Tuesday in Saratoga County Court to felony burglary 3rd-degree and has been remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional facility with no bail.
Warrants have been issued for the others involved, who are all incarcerated in Massachusetts on other charges.
