SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Federal workplace safety investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a Schenectady restaurant co-owner, who died over the weekend after his head became wedged in the kitchen dumbwaiter.

Police say 30-year-old Israel Silva was loading food into the elevator at the Bangkok Bistro on State Street just after 1:00 a.m. Saturday when another employee activated the elevator from the floor above.

Silva's head became trapped in the elevator causing severe head and neck injuries.

The Schenectady Fire Department responded and attempted to treat his injuries, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
