SCHENECTADY, NY – An employee and part owner of the Bangkok Bistro in
Schenectady died on Saturday after an accident with the dumbwaiter.
Police were called to the restaurant located at 268 State Street at approximately
1:19 a.m. for a report of a male with a head injury.
Upon police arrival, 30-year-old Israel Silva was located
with a severe head injury. The Schenectady Fire Department responded and
attempted to treat Silva's injuries. However due to the extensive nature of the
injury, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation revealed that Silva was loading food into a
food service elevator inside the basement kitchen when another employee
activated the elevator from the floor above. His head became trapped in the
elevator, causing severe head and neck injuries.
