SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Parents, teachers and supporters of Oneida Middle School in Schenectady will not walk away quietly.
A rally was held Thursday afternoon, the last day of classes, protesting the closing of Schenectady's Oneida Middle School.
The Board of Education voted to close the middle school's doors at the end of the school year earlier in June in order to help close the district's budget gap. The district is also planning on removing some elective courses from the high school. The students at Oneida will be moved to other buildings.
Those rallying intend to alert state representatives they are unhappy with the current state of affairs when it comes to their children's education. They say they "need to speak now to make sure there are not deeper cuts next year."
Schenectady is one district that needed to make radical cuts to find ways to meet the budget.
