OPPENHEIM, N.Y. -- The small Fulton County school district of Oppenheim-Ephratah is facing even more budget cuts after residents Tuesday voted down their budget for a second time.
The vote was 114 to 176.
After the second defeat, the district must now adopt a contingent budget. The contingent budget requires the district to make no change to the tax levy from last year, meaning, according to Oppenheim-Ephratah's website, they must cut an additional $115,810 in spending.
The original proposed budget already included some $207,000 in reductions.
According to the district, they will also have to eliminate the planned purchase of computers, other equipment, and a new bus. They will also have to begin charging outside groups for using school facilities.
The district was the only one in the greater Capital Region to see their budget twice defeated this year. The budget was defeated by a much larger margin of 104 to 275 back in May.
