ALBANY, N.Y. -- It looks like New York lawmakers will have to wait until the fall session to reach an agreement on who will have access to teacher evaluations.
Both the Senate and Assembly adjourned last night without approving a plan.
Lawmakers were hoping to pass the measure by midnight last night so they would be able to vote on it by Thursday ... the last day of the session.
Governor Cuomo has been negotiating privately with legislative leaders to limit the disclosure of broad, single-phrase ratings. A court has said the evaluations should be
public, but Cuomo and teachers' unions have tried to limit their release to parents of children in a teacher's class.
Now, the only way a bill on who is able to see teacher evaluations would be enacted, would be through an executive order. However, Governor Cuomo says he most likely will not issue such an order.
