Albany passes parking permit program

ALBANY, NY – The Albany Common Council passed the parking permit system on Monday. The votes passed 13 to zero.

The city hopes parking permits will better accommodate downtown Albany residents. Street parking in the area has been a hassle for residents to find parking because of state workers also parking on the streets.

A total of 2,750 parking spots will be designated in the downtown area as residential permit parking only. Residents will have to pay $25.00 for the permits. Cars without permits will be limited to park for two hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. There will be a $45.00 fine for violators.

Zones to be included for permit parking are Lark Street/Center Square, Mansions/Pastures, and the Ten Broeck triangle area.

The program goes into effect on October 1.
