AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - An Amsterdam man has been arrested early Thursday morning after punching
a woman, slashing her tires and punching four officers as they tried to
arrest him, police say.
Police in the City of Amsterdam say that 27-year-old Gabriel Arroyo, of 40 Division Street, was arrested after an incident which began with police responding to the area for a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle. Upon arrival officers spoke with the caller, who owns the vehicle as well, and discovered that Arroyo had allegedly entered her home, punched her in the face, then went outside and slashed all four tires on her vehicle.
The victim told police she had an active order of protection against Arroyo, as well.
After a search of the area, officers found him at his residence where Arroyo immediately began yelling at officers and attempted to hide in a closet. When attempting to place him in arrest, he began throwing punches, striking four officers in the face and head.
Officers found the knife used to slash the tires and a loaded pistol grip shot gun in the closet where he was hiding.
He was arrested and charged with Criminal Contempt 1st, Assault 2nd, four counts of Resisting Arrest, Harassment 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, and Criminal Mischief 3rd.
