Police: Toddler drowns in East Greenbush

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- A 20-month old girl drowned in an East Greenbush home's swimming pool Wednesday evening, town police said.

Police are calling the girl's drowning an accidental death.

According to Det. Sgt. Matthew Breig, the incident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. at a home on St. Clair Avenue.

Det. Sgt. Breig said authorities immediately began CPR on the girl upon arrival. She was then taken to Albany Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

East Greenbush police are continuing to investigate what happened. Breig said they are being assisted by Rensselaer County Child Protective Services.
