Latham volunteer firefighter charged for high speed motorcycle chase

Posted:

HALFMOON, NY -- A Latham motorcyclist has been charged for leading state police on a high speed chase that reached nearly 150 mph on the Northway.

The incident happened on Saturday at approximately 5:55 p.m.

State Police said Nabeel Saeed, 23, was already speeding when troopers tried to pull him over as he crossed the Twin Bridges. Instead, authorities said he picked up speed, finally coming to a stop at the intersection of Route 9 and 146 in Halfmoon.

Authorities said Saeed had a passenger on the motorcycle at the time but haven't identified the person. In a statement, they said the person was "unwilling."

The Latham Fire Department confirmed Saeed was a volunteer firefighter with them but wouldn't give any further comment.

Neighbors on the block where Saeed lived wouldn't go on camera but called the 23-year -old a good kid, who always helped out. They said he could frequently be seen working on his motorcycle.

Saeed has been charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations. He has been released on bail and is due back in Halfmoon Town Court at a later date.

This is the third instance of excessive motorcycle speeding in our area in less than six weeks
