LAKE GEORGE, NY - Recent motorcycle accidents have people questioning safety as Lake George holds Americade.
Americade is the world's largest touring rally. Tens of thousands of motorcyclists go to Lake George for the event every year.
However recent accidents involving motorcycles has many questioning their safety.
The latest accident happened Friday afternoon on Lake Shore Drive in Bolton at 12:39 p.m.
Authorities identify the driver as 49-year-old Timothy Wood, of Scotia, and his passenger as 49-year-old Terri Costello, of Schenectady.
According to sheriffs, Wood crossed the northbound lane and struck a guard rail. He suffered serious head injuries. Costello was thrown over the guard rail and down an embankment. She also sustained serious injuries. Sheriffs say they were both wearing helmets.
The Bolton Fire Department, Bolton Emergency Squad, North Warren Emergency Squad, and a member of the New York State Police Department assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
This is one of at least three accidents involving motorcycles in the last week. Motorcyclists at Americade acknowledge the risks of riding and say they take precautions.
A motorcyclist tells NEWS10, "We are pretty careful and you always have to watch out for the other guy because even though you are on the road, somebody's always cutting you off. You always have to be careful and take your time"
The Thruway Authority also has put up safety warnings on electronic message boards urging drivers to be careful for motorcycles during Americade.
