BOSTON, M.A.--It's something New York State and Vermont have already done, but people still cross the state line into Massachusetts and buy bath salts. But now that a ban is underway, the dangerous, synthetic drug may no longer be on shelves.
Now that the House of Representatives has passed legislation to prohibit the sale of bath salts, it's up to the State Senate.
The ban of bath salts is halfway there in Massachusetts, an inexpensive, synthetic drug with dangerous side effects, containing ingredients similar to those found in illegal narcotics.
Dr. Clifford Erikson, the emergency department director for Albany Memorial Hospital says the chemical makeup of bath salts is easily changed and can be difficult to track.
There are 38 other states in the U.S. that have already passed a similar ban.
