2 fishermen credited with Mohawk River rescue

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) - Two upstate New York men are being credited with saving a woman from drowning after they grabbed her while she floated past the Mohawk River dock they were fishing from during a night-time outing.

Local media outlets report that Joseph Constantine and Ray Fox were fishing late Monday night on a dock at an Erie Canal lock on the river at Amsterdam when they heard a splash and spotted a woman in the water.

Constantine leaned over and grabbed 1 of the woman's hands as Fox ran to a boat docked nearby and asked for help. The boater called 911.

Constantine says he held on to the woman for more than 15 minutes before police arrived and helped haul her out of the water.

She told authorities she had slipped into the water.
