SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The
Schenectady Police Department, in conjunction with the Schenectady Fire
Department, has made an arrest in connection with the two "suspicious" arson fires that
occurred on Monday.
Police say a 15-year-old Schenectady
juvenile, whose identity will not be released, has been charged with two counts of Arson in the 4th-degree, a Class E felony.
The first fire Monday occurred at a vacant building on 942 State Street around 4:45 p.m. About 20-minutes
later, crews were sent to a second fire at another vacant building at 738 Albany Street.
Police are still looking into a connection
between the two fires from Monday with previously reported
suspicious fires.
The juvenile appeared in Schenectady County Family Court Tuesday. No further details have been released at this time.
Last week, NEWS10 spoke with Chief DellaRocco about his concerns over the recent increase of suspicious fires in the city. We reported then that the department has been investigating at least seven confirmed "arson-like" fires so far this year.
