Man admits killing 73-year-old Hillsdale woman

HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) - A man has admitted killing a 73-year-old Sunday school teacher in her eastern New York home last year.

The Hudson Register-Star reports that 22-year-old Shafiqul Islam pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder and criminal possession of stolen property.

Lois Decker was found dead in her home in the Columbia County town of Hillsdale on Nov. 20. She had been strangled.

Islam was arrested after he crashed Decker's car and fled to nearby Hudson, where he was caught carrying her credit card.

He faces up to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for June 26.

Hillsdale is 35 miles southeast of Albany.
