BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An 83-year-old Vermont woman is facing a charge she assaulted her 86-year-old husband with a butcher knife in their Bennington home.
Edna Prouty pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of aggravated domestic assault with a weapon.
Court documents say Bennington Police went to the Prouty home on May 18 after a neighbor reported she saw an elderly woman chasing her husband with a butcher knife. A responding officer saw Edna Prouty put a knife under a cushion in the couch.
Police say Ralph Prouty had a small scratch on his back.
Edna Prouty was ordered not to have any contact with her husband.
The Bennington Banner reports the Proutys have a history of domestic violence that goes back almost 50 years.
