Armed robbery in Ballston Spa put schools into lockout
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - A lockout occurred for the Ballston Spa schools for about an hour on Wednesday afternoon, after an armed bank robbery occurred at the Adirondack Trust Company on Church Avenue.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Department says one male suspect entered the bank, located at 224 Church Avenue, around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, displayed a handgun and left with an unknown amount of money.
The suspect then fled the scene in the direction the Ballston Spa High School campus, where he got into a vehicle and took off. He was apprehended a short time later, after police saw the vehicle he was said to be driving on Middle Line Road.
Officers pursued the car before the vehicle crashed, rolled over multiple times, and a foot pursuit occurred. The suspect was arrested soon after.
A Sheriff's Department press release identified the suspect as 31-year old Nigel Guy of Ballston Spa.
Initially there was word of a second suspect on the loose, prompting the school lockout as a precaution; however it has been determined there was only one suspect.
