CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's Department says one teen has been killed, and another driver seriously injured after an accident on Route 146 in Clifton Park Tuesday night.
Route 146 between Pruyn Hill Road and Valley View Drive closed down after the crash that occurred around 9:30 p.m. in that area Tuesday night killing 19-year-old Taylor Mosher.
The sheriff's office says an investigation into the crash determined that a 2003 Honda Civic, driven by Mosher, of Halfmoon, had been traveling eastbound on Rt. 146 when it left the lane crossed over to the westbound lane, and struck a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by 45-year-old Thomas Czaban, of Scotia.
Mosher was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mosher family tells NEWS10 the teen was on her way to the store to buy cookie dough when the accident occurred, only one-tenth a mile from her home. She was gone less than five minutes when her step-father heard the crash.
Taylor was a 2010 graduate of Mechanicville High School and a cheerleader at the school. The school principal, Kevin Kolakowski says "She was a great student, involved and dedicated. She was respected and loved by her peers and staff alike. Our sincerest sympathies and thoughts go out to Taylor's family at this difficult time. This incident is a tragedy for the family of Taylor, the community as a whole and our school." The school is offering grief counseling for students and staff.
Czaban was transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center for treatment of leg and rib injuries. He was listed as being in fair condition at the hospital Wednesday night. Family members said earlier Wednesday that he underwent surgery during the day.
Sheriffs say they are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and why Mosher's vehicle left its lane.
