Police: Man attempts to kidnap woman in Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Police in Saratoga Springs say 18-year-old illegal immigrant has been arrested and charged after he allegedly attacked a 67-year-old woman in the city early Tuesday morning.
Police say around 3:45 a.m. Antonio Lopez-Bautista of South Federal Street, Saratoga Springs, approached the victim in the area of Congress Street and South Franklin Street while she waited in her vehicle for her husband. The victim was allegedly sitting in her car when Lopez-Bautista approached the vehicle from behind and pulled the victim from the vehicle and began to assault her.
Lopez-Bautista then allegedly dragged the woman along the sidewalk and attempted to pull the victim in to an isolated area. Police say he repeatedly punched and kicked her as she attempted to defend herself and yell for help. A caller alerted police to what they described as a 'physical domestic incident.' Lopez-Bautista had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
The victim was treated at the scene by EMS before she was taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment for a bloody nose, cuts and bruises to her arms, elbows, neck and face.
Officers searched the area for the suspect and located him hiding under bushes in a dark area a few buildings away. A brief scuffle took place with officers and he was taken in to custody.
Lopez-Bautista is charged with Attempted Kidnapping 2nd, Attempted Rape 1st, Assault 2nd, all felonies, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, a misdemeanor. He was sent to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash, $100,000 bond.
During the course of the investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs was contacted and it has been determined that Lopez-Bautista is in the United States illegally. The investigation is continuing.
