ALBANY, NY – Custom New York license plates for pediatric multiple sclerosis research centers raised $20,000 over the past eight years.
The Department of Motor Vehicles launched custom plates bearing the National MS Society logo in 2004. Proceeds of the custom license plates sales are sent to the New York State Health Department.
In 2004 legislation was passed that allowed the National MS Society to join forces with the DMV. The goal was to create awareness and raise money to support pediatric MS research across the state.
The plates are currently available to motorists statewide who wish to contribute to the effort to fight MS. The $25 annual renewal fee goes to the New York State Multiple Sclerosis Research Fund to support research. It's available for passenger and commercial vehicles. It can be ordered online at http://www.dmv.ny.gov/ or by calling the DMV Custom Plates Unit at (518) 402-4838.
