Ballston Spa Central School District: PASSED - Yes: 1,737 No: 759

Proposition #1: PASSED - Yes: 1,686 No: 756

Proposition #2: PASSED - Yes: 1,839 No: 749

Proposition #3: PASSED - Yes: 1,882 No: 568

BOE ELECTION: Kevin Schaefer (1,532 votes), Christine Richardson (1,666 votes), Nancy Fodera (1,414 votes), Donna Miter (1,384 votes)

  • Proposed staffing cuts: NONE
  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $76,394,402
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: +4.8%
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: -0.4% (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: NONE
  • Proposition #2- School District Buses and Vehicles. The district will spend up to $834,000 to purchase and replace school buses and vehicles.
  • Proposition #3- Ballston Spa Public Library. The district will be authorized to collect and contribute $50,000 towards the expense of operating the public library.
  • Proposition #4- Ballston Area Recreation Commission. A contribution of $28,000 will be collected and provided to the area recreation commission to support the operations, including Saturday school and summer programs.
  • BOE ELECTIONS- Three seats are available on the Board, each for a three-year term, commencing in July 2012. Interested voters will select three of the following candidates at the polls:  (in order of ballot position) Kevin Schaefer, Christine Richardson, Nancy Fodera, Donna Miter

Proposition #2: PASSED - Yes: 1,528 No: 670

BOE ELECTION: Elizabeth Herenham (1,756 votes) and James Maughan (1,707 votes)

  • Proposed staffing cuts: 1.8 positions (but adding 1.2, so net reduction of 0.6 reductions)
  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $56,912,454
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: +3.9%
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: +2.35% (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: Cuts seem minimal, if any.
  • Proposition #2- Bus purchase. If approved by the voters, the proposition would authorize the district to replace four school buses for no more than $400,000 during 2012-13.
  • BOE ELECTION- The May 15 ballot will also include candidates for two seats on the Board of Education. So far only the incumbents, Elizabeth Herkenham and James Maughan, have picked up petitions and indicated that they intend to be candidates.

"RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the South Glens Falls Central School District, Saratoga County, New York is hereby authorized to pay the cost of the purchase of four (4) 65-passenger school buses and one (1) 21-passenger bus at a maximum estimated cost of $453,991 and that said amount or so much thereof, as may be necessary, shall be raised by levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District, and collected in annual installments as provided by Section 416 of the Education Law; and in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said School District shall be issued."
