Cairo-Durham Central School District: PASSED - Yes: 623 No: 353

Proposition #1: PASSED - Yes: 539 No: 424

BOE ELECTION: Robert Criswell (488 votes), Beth Daly (558 votes), Carl Kohrs (472 votes)

  • Proposed staffing cuts: 16.9 FTE (Elementary Assistant Principal, 2 AIS (1 retired), 2 reading positions, 1 science and 1 math (both retired), .4 phys-ed (retired), 1 special ed, 3 teaching assistants, 3 literary coaches – elementary, .5 head bus driver, 4 part-time teachers aides)
  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $27,793,936
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: +???% (+$550,817)
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: +3.8% (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: Summer school, 4:30pm late bus run at Middle School/High School, Reduce athletic salaries to 2007-08 amounts, reduce extra-curricular salaries to 2007-08 amounts, bringing some special ed students back to the district and not outside placement, refinancing debt, transportation expenses.
  • Proposition #2- RESOLVED, that the Board of Education is hereby authorized to: (a) acquire two school buses at a maximum aggregate cost of $90,000; (b) expend such sums for such purpose; (d) levy the necessary tax therefore, to be levied and collected in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education taking into account state aid received ; (e) in anticipation of the collection of such tax, to issue bonds and notes of the District at one time or from time to time in the principal amount not to exceed $90,000 and to levy a tax to pay the interest on such obligations when due.
  • BOE ELECTION- RESOLVED, to elect three members of the Board of Education for 3 year terms commencing July 1, 2012 and expiring on June 30, 2015: To fill the expired 3 year term of Robert Criswell. To fill the expired 3 year term of Carl Kohrs. To fill the expired 3 year term of Timothy Hunt.

  • Proposed staffing cuts: 10 FTE (math teacher (retired), social studies, 2 music teachers, art teacher, phys-ed teacher, health teacher, nurse, librarian, business electives teacher.
  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $37,088,536
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: -0.33% (-$122,210)
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: +2.17% (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: Reduced transportation contracts
  • Proposition #2- To vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of the Catskill Public Library for the 2012-2013 year and authorizing the levy of taxes necessary to pay the same.
  • BOE ELECTION- To elect three members to the Board of Education: three seats (3) for three year terms, from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2015.

  • Proposed staffing cuts: 18 FTE, but adding 10 FTE (Losing 1 reading teacher (retired), 1 health teacher, 1 foreign language teacher, 1 music teacher, 1 PT home & careers teacher, 1 PT social worker, .5 Athletic Director, 1 FT and 1 PT clerical positions, 2 custodians, 1 FT teacher's aide, 7 FT teacher assistants, 1 tech support (retired)) (HIRING 11 PT teacher's aides, .5 tech support, 1 elementary teacher, 1 tech/STEM teacher, 1 phys-ed teacher, 1 counselor)
  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $25,951,190
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: +3.44% (+$862,205)
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: +2.99% (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: Phasing out French (bringing in Chinese and/or other languages via distance learning), sharing an Athletic Director with Catskill CSD, sharing tech support staff with New Lebanon CSD, sharing Director of Special Ed with Catskill CSD
  • BOE ELECTION- Residents will also be voting for candidates running for four seats on the Board of Education. Running unopposed for a 1-year seat is Joseph Garland. Running unopposed for 3-year seats are Barton Wallace and Maureen Hanse. Running for the 3-year seat being vacated by Carrol Mercer are Michael Donahue and Michael Petramale.

  • Proposed 2012-2013 budget: $26,333,060
  • Percentage increase/decrease in budget: +0.99% (+$258,023)
  • Tax levy increase/decrease: +3.12%* (Does NOT need supermajority [60%] approval to pass)
  • Proposed program cuts: Eliminate bus run, suspend modified sports and intramurals, suspend some clubs, reduce hours/days of non-instructional employees.
  • Proposition #2- Bus Proposition: Seven buses ~ 66 passenger / One wheelchair van ~ 35 passenger / Two vans ~ 20 and 28 passenger/ Cost not to exceed $831,930
  • Proposition #3- Public Library budgets — Greenville & Rensselaerville
  • BOE ELECTION- The voters will elect three district residents to 3-year terms on the Board of Education. Listed as they will appear on the 2012-2013 ballot, as per required drawing, are candidates: Wilton Bear, Jr., Ann Holstein, Lawrence Tompkins, Patricia C. Macko, Gloria J. Bear

  • Proposed program cuts: Losing 1 of 2 Pre-K sections
  • Proposition #2- Shall the Board of Education be authorized to purchase one 54-passenger, wheelchair accessible diesel bus and one 7-passenger bus van, at a combined cost not to exceed $143,500 and to authorize and issue serial bonds in the principal amount of$143,500 and to levy real estate taxes for the costs of such purpose
  • BOE ELECTION- There is one board seat open for a five year term ending June 30, 2017. The three (3) candidates running for the seat are as follows: Melissa Glennon, Bobbi Jo Matthews, John Berger
