Mass. to get $33 million for health centers

Posted:

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts has received $33.7 million to help fund 11 community health centers across the state.

U.S. Sen. John Kerry plans to announce the funding during a visit Friday to the Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center in Allston.

The money will be used to support renovation and construction projects that will help create jobs and expand affordable health care. The Smith center won $5 million in funding from grant programs created as part of the health reform law.

During his visit Friday, Kerry plans to deliver remarks on the constitutionality of the health care law ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision this summer.

The Smith center provides health care to residents of Allston, Brighton, Waltham and surrounding areas.
