BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Sen. Bernie Sanders says that 15 rural post offices slated to close in Vermont will stay open, but will have reduced hours under a U.S. Postal Service proposal.
Sanders said he will continue fighting to keep as many of the rural offices open for as long as possible.
Five of the affected post offices are in Bennington County: North Pownal, East Arlington, East Dorset, Readsboro and West Rupert.
Tom Rizzo, a Maine-based spokesman for the postal service, told the Bennington Banner the proposal appears to be gaining more support than a previous one to close the offices.
