SCHOHARIE, N.Y. - Audible testing of alarms used in a dam emergency or dam failure is taking place in Schoharie County Wednesday.

The county says the sirens have been repaired and are passing the weekly silent testing. On Wednesday, the county is conducting audible testing the sirens for the first time since Tropical Storm Irene. They have been working to fix since the August 28th storm when four sirens were damaged. There are 20 of them in all, and they have all been prepared.

There are two types of alarms, A and B, being tested; alarm A is for general alerts, alarm B is for evacuation alerts.

The sirens will be tested monthly on the second Wednesday of each month, the county says.
