MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin has signed a bill into law expanding the use ignition interlock devices for people convicted of drunken driving.
The voluntary program allows people with driving under the influence convictions to continue driving as long as they have an on-board breathalyzer machine that prevents their vehicles from starting if they've been drinking.
Shumlin signed a bill Friday that expands their use.
He said the devices make Vermont roads safer while allowing offenders to continue driving to get to work and support their families.
