WINDHAM, N.Y. - Earlier this week, the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School District alerted sheriffs to an alleged improper relationship between a teacher and student in the district.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department was alerted to the allegation on Monday, in which the district says a female vocal music teacher engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student off campus.
The district says they are limited under law as to any comment they can make on the issue, however feel the public should know the teacher has resigned from her position with the district, effective immediately. The district says, therefore, she is not currently teaching or in contact with any students within the district.
The New York State Education Department was notified of the investigation and will review the teacher's license status in the future.
