Veteran Vt. sheriff dies

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (AP) - Longtime Addison County Sheriff James B. Coons has died.

Coons, who served as sheriff for 31 years, died at his Middlebury home on Monday of cancer. He was 59.

High Bailiff Donald M. Keller, Jr. was sworn in as sheriff on Tuesday. Keller has served as a deputy with the Addison County Sheriff's Department for more than 40 years.
