Magazine workers making 300-mile NY-to-Boston trek

STILLWATER, N.Y. (AP) - Two staffers from a history magazine are walking the 300-mile route taken by American soldiers as they hauled captured British artillery from northern New York to Boston during the Revolutionary War.

Benjamin Smith, managing editor of Ohio-based Patriots of the American Revolution magazine, and co-worker Alex Culpepper began marching last Friday at Fort Ticonderoga. They reached the Saratoga Battlefield Tuesday and are resuming the hike Wednesday.

They plan to end their trek in Cambridge, Mass., on April 21.

They're following the Knox Trail, named for Col. Henry Knox, leader of the expedition that hauled 59 cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Dorchester Heights outside Boston in early 1776. The guns forced the British to evacuate Boston.

The men are using the walk to raise money for historical sites related to the trail.
