HANCOCK, Mass. (AP) - Police say a black bear that had been struck by two cars in Hancock had to be destroyed.

State police say the bear was struck on Route 20 in the Berkshire County town at about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday. The bear was lying in the road near the entrance to Hancock Shaker Village.

State police say the first vehicle that struck the bear, a Toyota Matrix, had considerable damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Within minutes, a Toyota Tercel hit the bear. That car suffered minor damage.

Police tell The Berkshire Eagle neither driver was hurt.

The adult bear suffered two broken hind legs and had to be destroyed, police said.
