Intern credited for saving Gabrielle Giffords speaks in Troy

TROY, NY - The college student credited with saving the life of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was in the Capital Region Saturday night.

Daniel Hernandez is nationally known as a humble hero. An intern at the time, Hernandez ran toward the shooting that left six dead and 19 injured in January 2011.

Since the incident, he's been travelling the county helping out students.

On Saturday night the 21-year-old addressed dozens of students at an LGBT leadership conference at Russell Sage. Hernandez hoped to inspire students to pursue leadership, activism, and change.

Hernandez is a political science student and an elected school board member in his Arizona town. He has kept in touch with Giffords since the incident.
