BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to negligent vehicle operation after police said he drove his car with two passengers into a farm stand.

Twenty-two-year-old Richard Davis of Bennington was released on the condition he not drive.

The Bennington Banner reports Davis told police he tried to pass another vehicle on Jan. 27 in Pownal, lost control of the car and went onto the field into the farm stand, causing $3,000 in damage. A 21-year-old female passenger was treated and released at a hospital. A 4-year-old passenger was not hurt.

Witnesses said Davis was part of a long line of drivers going 50 mph in rainy, windy conditions. They said he went to pass two vehicles, but had to go back into his lane to avoid traffic.
