BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Officials in Bennington, Vt., say the mild winter could end up saving the town about $150,000 in maintenance costs.
Town Manager Stuart Hurd says with a month or so left in the winter season, the town has spent less than 35 percent of its overtime budget and just 21.6 percent of the salt and sand budget.
The Bennington Banner reports Hurd says frost heaves and other road surface repairs should not be as extreme this year. He says the money saved can be reinvested in road repairs. For example, he said the town could move forward more quickly on a planned paving project.
