Castelli to leave Siena College women's basketball team

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena College has announced that Gina Castelli will no longer coach the women's basketball team.

Since 1990, Gina Castelli has coached the Siena College women's basketball team. Siena and Castelli have reached a mutual decision to move in a new direction with the program.

Gastelli says in a statement that coaching will always be her passion. She says, "I am very sad to leave Siena, I am looking forward to new opportunities in the coaching profession, where I can continue to grow and become the best I can be."

The Saints completed the 2011-12 season with a 12-17 overall record, their eighth straight losing season.

Director of Athletics John D'Argenio says, "We respect that she is ready for a different challenge and wish her the best of luck. I hope when she reflects on her Siena career her recollections will be positive."

The college plans to search for replacement immediately.
