ALBANY, N.Y. - Governor Andrew Cuomo will make another big push Wednesday to urge state lawmakers to expand the DNA database to try to solve more crimes across the state.
The governor will be joined by law enforcement leaders and victims groups to support the DNA databank bill.
The state currently limits DNA testing to certain felony and misdemeanor convictions which means only 48 percent of criminals give samples. Governor Cuomo wants it to include all criminal misdemeanors and felonies. The expansion could be passed as part of the state budget or in separate legislation.
Governor Cuomo will speak at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday on this issue in the Red Room at the Capitol.
