SCHOHARIE, N.Y. - Tuesday, February 28th marks six months since Tropical Storm Irene hit, devastating some local communities with intense flooding. Although it's been half a year, for some it feels like the disaster just happened.
The money some flood victims are counting on to rebuild, has not come in as fast as they needed it.
NEWS10 visited Junction Road in Schoharie County Tuesday, where six months later there is still damage everywhere you look. House after house is gutted, and homeowners are still looking for answers and help.
Take the Nelson's home, for instance. To date they have received $55 from FEMA. They still owe $100,000 on their mortgage, yet their home is just a hollow frame with nothing left inside.
They say it's unimaginable that six months after the storm, they are still without anything.
"We need help and no one has any answers for us, no one can tell us who we're supposed to contact, what we are supposed to do. I want to move forward, but there is no assistance for us," says Trisha Nelson.
