Mass. state trooper charged with domestic assault

BRIMFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts state trooper has been arrested for allegedly hitting his wife.

State police said Donald Pillsbury was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday after his wife called 911 and said she was being physically assaulted by her husband.

The 42-year-old Pillsbury joined the state police in 1994 and is assigned to the dog section.

He was booked on charges of domestic assault and battery and was scheduled to be arraigned later Thursday in Palmer District Court.

State police said Pillsbury was temporarily relieved of duty and had his service firearm and personal guns stored in his home confiscated.

An internal hearing is being arranged to determine changes to Pillsbury's duty status.

Pillsbury's wife was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
