AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - Police in Amsterdam have arrested 33-year-old Albert Flores of Hamilton Street after they say he choked a woman and then cut her cat's neck.
Flores was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and cruelty to animals, both misdemeanors.
Officers with the Amsterdam Police Department say they were called to Flores's home on Monday over an alleged domestic dispute. The woman who lives in the home told police Flores had cut her cat with a knife the day before.
An officer working on this case says the cat is alive, but needs care. Currently, the animal control officer is seeking assistance from local shelters and rescue groups to cover the cost of the cat's care.
This isn't the only crime Flores is being accused of at this time. When he was arrested on Monday, police in Amsterdam discovered that Flores was also wanted on a felony warrant out of Hudson.
Hudson Police picked him up and have him in their custody.
