Charges upgraded for man responsible for Chubby's abandonment

ARGYLE, N.Y. - There is more justice for Chubby.

Charges for 52-year-old Shane Morehouse, of Fort Edward, were upgraded on Wednesday to Aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony under Buster's Law, torture, injury and not feeding animal and abandonment of animal, both misdemeanors.

Chubby, the Malamute-mix, was found with his mouth and legs duct taped and dumped on the side of the road in Argyle earlier this month.

Authorities say Morehouse admitted to doing this, telling them that the dog belonged to a friend, Louis Hart, who could no longer care for him. Hart apparently could not afford the vet bills associated with the care.

Chubby was taken to a local veterinarian and treated for his injuries. Unfortunately it was also discovered that the dog was suffering from an extensive unrelated illness and the animal had to be euthanized.

Hart's charges were upgraded to felony counts, as well. He faces one count of Cruelty to Animals, a felony charge, and one count of Abandonment, a misdemeanor.
